Chinggis Khaan International Airport has been officially opened today as scheduled.
We, New Ulaanbaatar International Airport LLC (NUBIA LLC) will be in charge of airport management and operations of the new airport for the next 15 years in accordance the Concession Agreement with the Government of Mongolia. According to the approved schedule, all international and domestic commercial flights will take off and land at the Airport from today.
The opening ceremony was honarably held at the airport in the presence of H.E Mr. U.Khurelsukh, the President of Mongolia, H.E Mr. KOBAYASHI Hiroyuki Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia, H.E Mr. L.Khaltar, Minister of Road and Transport Development, H.E Mrs. B.Batsetseg, Minister of Foreign affairs, Chier Executive Officer of Khushigiin Khundii Airport SOLLC, Director & Deputy Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Mongolia, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Khushigiin Khundii Airport SOLLC and delegates of international and domestic airlines using the airport.
The first memorable international flight, MIAT Mongolian Airlines OM501, Boeing 737-800 has successfully departed for Tokyo, Narita, Japan from the Airport.
The new airport was originally scheduled to commence operations at the new airport in 2020, however, the opening was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the pandemic has significantly reduced air travel in Mongolia, demand for flights is expected to increase over the medium to long term, particularly in Ulaanbaatar, the country’s capital city and center of its political and economic activity. Chinggis Khaan International Airport will likely play an increasingly prominent role over the coming years.
As a joint venture company between Mongolia and Japan, we will operate the new airport, as a symbol of bilateral cooperation between Japan and Mongolia, with the best leading management (know-how), new technology, best experience, and good sample of Japan by increasing the numbers of routes, flights and passengers, issuance of the international standard-service and development of the tourism and will do its best to contribute to the sustainable development of Mongolia’s economy and society.
